Plan your Garden- how to have your dream garden

Whether it is a cottage core inspired rustic garden or a clean, green, and functional space- your dream garden needs to be planned before it can come to life. And we have produced the perfect way for you to plan the dream garden- and make it a reality!

Assess your Garden

The first thing you need to do to start with your garden is to assess it. Figure out what kind of space it is and what all you can do with it- is it big or small and is it paved or is it grassy? These, along with what you plan to do with your garden, will play a significant role in deciding how much work is ahead of you. The next step would be to figure out the sunlight- first, find the direction your garden faces- while north and east are a bit gloomy, south and west can get sunny. Check the different areas that receive sunlight during the different times of the day- morning, afternoon, and evening. This will help you decide what can be planted in those spaces. It is also a clever idea to assess the present flora and furniture and decide if you want to keep them in and upcycle, or take them out completely. The same goes for the trees and the present landscape of the place- are there trees and do you want to keep them, remove them, or reposition them? These questions need to be asked before the planning of the garden starts.

Start Planning

One of the best parts of designing your dream garden is that you get to, well, design it! Start by measuring your space. Once you have an idea of how big the garden is, you can start dividing it into zones depending on how you would like it to look and what you would like to have in each zone. Make a mood board- it will help you out a lot in the long run! You can look it up on Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration. It is suggested you create at least 3 mood boards and decide on elements you repeat the most in them. This will also help you understand the layouts you can go for. It is important that you first decide on the important components:

  • Storage: No garden is complete without a shed or a storage area- it is where all your tools go with extra gardening stuff like the grass mower.
  • Budget: There is no point in planning out your garden in full if you will not be able to afford it. Plan a budget and divide your garden plan into various units. Provide each of these units with a budget and then go ahead. This ensures you are not planning things that you cannot afford.
  • Drainage: Rainwater is extremely essential and can be used to water your garden. If you would like to have a drainage system that self-waters the plants, it would do you well to employ professionals when you are deciding on the layout. Click here for professional services.

Decide on the plants

Once you have a basic plan, it is now time to start deciding on the plants you want to include in your garden. This will heavily depend on your local flora as well as the climate and climate changes of the place you live in. Ideally, you would like to grow evergreen plants. However, your plant choices will also depend on the kind of garden you want. One of the easiest ways to choose plants for your garden is by creating a sensory experience- this means plants and flowers that engage at least two of your senses. Also, decide if you would like to grow vegetables- and what vegetables can be grown without special greenhouses. If you would like to grow any plants that do have specific requirements, make sure you include the special equipment needed in the budget as well as the layout.

Allow yourself to include seasonal as well as evergreen plants and flowers. Grow herbs and fruits that you use in your everyday life. Make sure that you add in some trees as well, so that there is a balance in your garden and a space to sit when it is too sunny. If you are creating a seating area, decide on the plants you would want to plant here.

Decide your style

There are a lot of options out there when it comes to planning a garden- and all of them have distinctive styles. You must decide on what your style is and how you want it to reflect in your garden- use your mood boards to get a better idea. You can also lookup online at distinct kinds of styles- like modern, cottage core etc. to get an idea of what all is included and what appeals to you the most
