When Secretariat was a three-year-old in the United States, he was selected as the Champion Juvenile Colt. In 1972 and 1973, he was again named the American Horse of the Year.

He became the ninth Thoroughbred horse to win more than $1,000,000 in prize money after winning the Marlboro Cup Invitational Handicap in a world record time.

Man o’ War

A major travesty of the sport is that Man o’ War’s owner refused to allow him a shot at the US Triple Crown.

The sailors of the British Royal Navy battleships, after which Man o’ War was named, had a similarly ferocious attitude. During the interwar era, he is credited for reinvigorating the sport in North America.

Winx might have been the inspiration for the term ‘wonder-mare’. She is the only horse to win 25 G1 races, which is a world record. In 2017, she followed the footsteps of Black Caviar by becoming the third horse to ever be inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame while still in training.

There is a strong connection between Zenyatta’s sire, Street Cry, and Winx’s success. It’s an Australian record that she’s won the Cox Plate four times in a row at Moonee Valley.
