Gruul’s Lair 👹 WoW TBC Guide
Discover why the different elements that you’ll find in Gruul’s Lair make it one of the favorite dungeons in the game.
Before we discuss the Raid and its TBC items, we need to understand how exploring works in games. One of the best features in any MMORPG out there is the option to explore a vast fantasy world. It allows you to explore different biomes that each have their characteristics. For example, in the first hour, you might be riding on the snow, and crusing through the desert afterward. With these different themes, you’ll find new ways to enjoy the different places that appear in the game.
Additionally, within each setting, you’ll learn that different enemies appear more frequently. Giving the option to find different foes with new abilities and attributes. Sometimes, depending on your class or race, you’ll discover that some places tend to become less complicated. Indeed, if you’re a crusader or priest, you might it easier to control places that have zombies or demons.
In WoW TBC, its no exception. Within each biome, you’ll find how the environment around you chances with additional effects in Azeroth. Therefore, as you TBC power leveling through the game, you’ll get to “meet” tons of new monsters in between.
Some of these special places come in the form of a Raid that is easy to explore. Indeed, this time we’ll focus on the different elements of Gruul’s Lair which makes it unique.
Preparing for Gruul’s Lair
Since this Raid is available at launch (when The Burning Crusade arrived), you do not need a special attunement. In other words, there are no questlines to complete or instances to re-run. Still, though, you need to achieve essential requirements.
First of all, you’ll need to reach level 60 and complete the main quest from WoW Classic. Afterward, you will have the option to unlock the Burning Crusade content and move through the “Dark Portal.” Lastly, reaching level 65+ will allow you to grab your friends/guildmates and explore Gruul’s Lair.
Gruul’s Lair Guide
Main Theme
This time around, you’ll move inside a huge cave filled with tons of powerful humanoid giants. Through the different passageways, you’ll find powerful mobs that have unique gaming mechanics. Some of the strongest foes that you’ll need to defeat quickly are the Gronn-Priest and Lair Brute.
First of all, the Gronn-Priest has abilities such as heal, psychic scream, and renew. Always try to interrupt the healing spells before they go out. If you manage to control this monster, you won’t have a difficult time defeating the rest.
Secondly, the Lair Brute can cast mortal strikes and cleave. Since they tend to use AoE (Area of Effect) abilities, you’ll need to lure them away from the rest of the party. After a while, the tanks will help controlling the damage, and let the DPS members do the damage.
Bosses
- High King Maulgar: Since you’ll need to kill the boss and the council, the party needs to keep a good coordination. Therefore, the entire team needs to control the mods (four of them), and control the High King Maulgar at the same time. Additionally, each of the members of the council comes with their abilities and unique game mechanics. Overall, you’ll need to deal with each mob, one by one, and kill the boss later.
- Gruul the Dragonkiller: This powerful foe tends to use a self-buff called “Growth,” which adds increased damage to its attacks. Hence, the more time it takes to defeat the last boss, the difficult it turns. Furthermore, Gruul will randomly punch the ground, knocking everyone back. The last ability also gives the entire party a debuff, which reduces movement speed (at five stacks you can’t move anymore). If you manage to stack five times the debuff, you’ll turn into stone, and Grull might use “Shatter” on you. As a result, your health (and the ones near you) might go down quickly. Overall, kill Gruul as soon as possible.
