40,000 spectators filled the hill, “watching for free” Taylor Swift perform

Tens of thousands of people watched Taylor Swift’s concert in Munich, Germany, from a hill outside the Olympic Stadium on July 27-28 without paying a penny.

“It’s nice to meet you. Thank you for coming,” Taylor Swift greeted in German to 74,000 fans in the Olympic Stadium.

The hill southeast of the stadium, where tens of thousands of spectators were, had a direct view, higher than the entire Olympic Stadium. They brought umbrellas, blankets, camping, and watched the three-hour concert for free without having to pay a penny.

The Olympic website writes: “From the top of the hill, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Olympic Park, Munich and the Alps. However, for decades, the Olympic Hill has also been a popular destination for enjoying free outdoor concerts.”

In photos of the concert venue, fans were seen camping out on the gently sloping hill just behind the stadium. Police estimated that 40,000 people were in the stadium, 25,000 on the hill and 15,000 in the space next to the Nymphenburg Canal.

In videos taken by viewers on X (formerly Twitter), Taylor Swift can be heard shouting greetings to the crowd outside from the stage.

“We have a lot of people in the park outside the stadium, thousands of people listening!” she told the cheering crowd. “I feel so welcome, and we’re going to spend the night trying to make it up to you.”

At the concert, Taylor Swift thrilled fans with a guitar performance of Fresh out the slammer – one of the surprises of the Eras Tour – combined with the hit You are in love.

Before the show in Munich, the singer had two shows in Hamburg, Germany on July 23-24. After the concert in Germany, Taylor Swift will travel to the capital Warsaw, Poland, for two nights in early August. Swift’s record-breaking European leg of the world tour will end with five more shows in London, England.
