Zelda and the Clock Game features a neat Tri-Force Easter Egg
Nintendo fans have discovered a small but neat and surprising Triforce Easter egg on the body of the recently released vintage-style gaming handheld.
Original Nintendo Games and Watch was one of the earliest gaming handhelds on the market. These original Game Boy predecessors were sold between 1981 and 1991 and allowed players to experience a variety of Nintendo games on the go. Nintendo revives the brand with NS Super Mario Bros. Hand released last year, bringing them back as a nostalgic, if not the most practical, way to experience classic Nintendo titles.
Reddit user AirDancerExtreme is testing their new feature Zelda and Watch Game when they notice an interesting easter egg. Engraving Triforce on the back of devices is not just the original blue inert plastic layer. Instead, the icon lights up when the handset is turned on.
Nintendo released the original Zelda Game and Watch in 1989. Like the other devices in the series, it played a single game and doubled as an alarm clock, hence the name. How to play similar to Zelda II: Link’s Adventure for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Meanwhile, modern Zelda Games and Watches are a bit more advanced, there are four old Nintendo games. It includes the original The Legend of Zelda since 1986, 1988 Link’s Adventure, and in 1993 Wake up link. The fourth game is a game and the original Watch title is called Bugs Nintendo has re-imagined with Link as the main character. The handsets sell for around $50 from most retailers or significantly more on sites like eBay.
AirDancerExtreme shared their discovery on r/randomnintendo. Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive, as one might expect from a subreddit for most die-hard Nintendo fans. One even revealed how Triforce works. It turns out that the designers of Games and Watches left behind a Triforce-shaped recess that connects the plastic case to the LCD’s backlight.
The 2021 version of Zelda Game and Watch launches on November 12th to celebrate The Legend of Zelda’s 35th Birthday. Initial stock sold out online in seconds. Unfortunately, however, as with many recent hardware releases, a significant number of these purchases appear to be from extenders. True fans have said that the people who play these games are not only making Games and Watch harder to reach, but are also coming back and selling the handhelds at sky-high gains.
However, as with Super Mario Bros. Game and Watch released last year, there’s clearly a market for these collectible, vintage-style handhelds. So it’s unlikely we’ll see more Game and Watch handhelds in the future. Hopefully, it’ll be a little easier for Nintendo fans to actually get their hands on one, though.
