It appear Shazam! star Zachary Levi was never intended for a role in a Marvel movie. The actor said it when he missed a role in Guardians of the Galaxy, he was able to land the role of Shazam for Warner Bros. and DC.
Levi, unfortunately, lost the lead role because Guardians of the Galaxy, which, as many know, belonged to Chris Pratt. Levi would be a great fit for the role of Peter Quill based on his comedic timing in Shazam! alone, so it’s no wonder the actor once played Star-Lord. It seems like DC comics have always been his calling, and now he’s his own Shazam franchise the result is.
Zachary Levi sat down with the Fourth Wall podcast and detailed this with them. “James [Gunn] and I know each other, we are friends, we will have game nights at each other’s houses, have a lot of friends in common,” said Levi. the Guardians of the Galaxy manager is how he was asked to come and read to Star-Lord. After a few readings, Levi ended up checking the camera, which was a big deal because they required actors to dress up in front of the camera to see how they would look. Only actors who are seriously considered for a role can make it to this step.
Go deep into Star-Lord Selection Process Levi recounts how just being rejected was very disappointing. “Oh my, I wanted that part so badly, so, so, so bad. It went to me, someone else, and Chris Pratt, but Chris has always been their favorite… in the end, and I think smart, [Pratt] He decided to take this job and so it didn’t go my way. and sometimes the production partner, Peter Safran, calls James because this is how our industry works. “Levi considered whether his audition at Marvel was what got him the lead role at DC, adding, ‘I think between that and how good James thinks I did. on the Star-Lord test, he said, ‘Yeah, man, you really should give Zach a chance on this. I really think he can turn out great. ‘”
In a fortunate change of heart, Levi escaped being excluded from the God of thunder movie as a supporting character leading the DC superhero series solo as a hero strong like superman. It is safe to say that the actor did not miss anything.
Moving up in the film industry can often let someone know who they are and how well connected they are. Usually, just having the chance to audition can make all the difference, so for Levi it all worked out in his favor. Of course, talent still needs to prove itself, but sometimes just a phone call is enough for a small role or even a chance to star in a sequel.
