Yu-Gi-Oh! List of banned and limited cards Master Duel (January 2022)

Konami has many methods to ensure Yu-Gi-Oh! maintain a balanced competitive meta with releases every few sets.

This balancing happens through a constantly updated list of Prohibited and Restricted cards, ensuring no card can be abused in a format for more than a few months at a time. However, Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel forced the company to take a new approach because of its all-digital format.

Master Duel has a managed card stock of over 10,000 cards. Among them are some cards that may not have been physically released in the TCG or OCG, resulting in disparities between the digital platform and the real game. Besides, Master Duel allows players around the world to compete with each other using the same mechanics and available cards.

The result is, Master Duel has been split off from both the TCG and OCG formats, becoming its own standalone form Yu-Gi-Oh! This means the list of Banned and Restricted cards for Master Duel is completely original and will help develop a unique meta.

Despite these differences, the blacklist is still divided into three specific sections, with a fourth being included at the end of certain updates to show which cards are no longer restricted from use.

• Prohibited: A card that cannot be used in a player’s Main Deck, Extra Deck or Extra Deck.
• Restriction: Only one copy of a card can be used in a player’s Main Deck, Extra Deck or Extra Deck.
• Limited Sale: Only two copies of a card can be used in a player’s Main Deck, Extra Deck, or Extra Deck.

Historically, Konami issues its blacklist updates every three months, giving players time to implement new product releases into their strategy and creating new decks, while also allowing allows the company to collect more data and make informed decisions about which cards to hit next. This method will probably still apply to Master Duel.

One more thing to note Master Duel is that Konami has left open a menu that is likely to have different variations of the Prohibited and Restricted tag lists if more formats are added to the game.
