YouTuber Benjamin Rich denies arrest at Russian-controlled space center

Benjamin Rich, a British citizen known for his YouTube travel blog, has denied Russia’s allegation that he was arrested at the Baikonur Cosmodrome.

Benjamin Rich, 48, is a YouTuber, best known for his travel blog Baldness and Bankruptcy.

He specializes in traveling to remote and sometimes dangerous parts of the world and has 3.5 million followers on his channel.

Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia’s space agency Roscosmos, said on Saturday that Rich and Alina Tseliupa of Belarus were arrested at the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Baikonur is currently open to tourists seeking permission from the Russian space agency Roscosmos.

In an online post, Rogozin said Mr. Rich and Ms. Tseliupa had been detained near one of the launchers and that they were being held by city authorities.

Mr Rogozin said local authorities were determining the “exact level of involvement in illegal activities” by the couple.

He also posted photos of Mr. Rich’s visa and Ms. Tseliupa’s passport.

However, Mr Rich said he was only questioned by authorities for a few hours and in an Instagram story he said he was not arrested in any way.

He took to Instagram to reveal that he had been released, along with footage of him showing off buildings in the former Soviet city that had closed.

“I woke up with tons of messages asking if I was okay. Obviously people thought I was upset because of some of the Twitter posts,” he said.

“I was basically questioned for several hours by the Russian police for going to see the Buran missile without special permission and was fined £60 like the hundreds of foreign explorers before me.

“The police were also kind enough to show me the closed town of Baikonur. There is a wonderful mosaic of a Cosmonaut. Currently lying in my hotel room, watching TV and eating Doshirak (color of course of course). red) … Hardly a fool.”
