But the video’s disappearance was short-lived, and a school board member said it’s unclear why YouTube initially removed the video.
After YouTube removed the video of Tuesday’s Johnsburg School District 12 meeting, the video was reinstated on Friday. In restoring the video, YouTube cited an exemption from its policies regarding when the video was removed, Northwest Herald reported.
The northwest Chicago suburban school district is working to appeal the removal of the video before it is reinstated on Friday, said Steve Link, a district 12 school board member.
Link said the board was not specifically told what was said or shown on the meeting video, which YouTube initially found to be a violation of its policies.
Some urged District 12 officials at Tuesday’s meeting to make face masks optional for all students, whether or not they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Some are concerned about cardiovascular problems from the COVID-19 vaccine and that children do not spread the virus.
District 12 has decided that face coverings are not mandatory for all students, but have recommended that unvaccinated students continue to wear masks.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health have said that unvaccinated staff and students should wear masks in classrooms for the upcoming school year.
