You can save money with Medigap Plan N — here’s how it works

Medigap Plan N serves as supplemental insurance to help pay for out-of-pocket costs that Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B, also known as Original Medicare, no cover.

If you don’t spend a lot each year on copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles for medical appointments, Medigap Plan N could be an option to help you save compared to other medical expenses. Medigap Package. This is because it has a higher copay, but a lower monthly premium.

How it works

Medigap N Plan, which is part of Medicare Supplement Insurance, which eases some of the worries associated with healthcare costs and fees. If you are only covered by Original Medicare, Medigap Plan N can help boost your health coverage and could save you money doing so.

After Medicare pays the approved amount for health care costs and services, Medigap Plan N will fill in any “gap” left in your coverage. Plan N can cover your Medicare Part A deductible or assist with your Medicare Part B copay.

Medigap N and all Medicare Supplemental Insurance plans are sold by private companies. They are federally regulated and standardized in all states except Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

What does the Medigap N plan include

Here’s what Plan N covers, according to Medicare.gov:

  • Part A is deductible.

  • Part A coinsurance and an additional 365 days of hospital stay after exhausting Medicare benefits.

  • Part A co-insurance or co-payment for cell child care.

  • Part B coinsurance (copay is $20 per office visit and up to $50 per emergency room visit; waived if accepted).

  • Blood transfusion (up to three pints).

  • Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance.

  • Urgent health care expenses for the first 60 days of travel outside the US and 80% after the $250 deductible are met.

What Medigap Plan N Doesn’t Include

While Medigap Plan N is one of the more comprehensive Medicare Supplement Insurance plans, here’s what Plan N doesn’t cover:

  • Part B is deductible.

  • Part B has excess charge.

  • Prescription drugs.

  • Long-term care.

  • Teeth care.

  • Vision care.

  • Private nurse.

How much does Medigap Plan N cost?

The cost of a Medigap Plan N policy varies based on a number of factors. Where you live, the insurance company you buy from, when you decide to buy, and your current health condition can all play a role in the price of your policy.

To get the best price on your Plan N coverage, you should sign up for Medigap as soon as you qualify – three months before or after your 65th birthday – and when you’re already signed up for Medicare Part B .

Policies are much cheaper during this seven-month open enrollment period because companies aren’t allowed to consider your current health or medical history when writing the initial policy. However, they do take into account the health condition after this enrollment period, which may cost you more for the same coverage.

When purchasing Medigap Plan N, review your medical records. If you don’t see your doctor as often, then Plan N, which can cost you more but lower monthly premiums, may be a better choice for you.
