Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be free on the Epic Games Store

I love a good platformer, so much so that sometimes, I close my eyes at night and hope I can get a really cool one for free. When I opened my eyes this morning, my dream came true, because Epic Games Store will give it away Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair Free next week. Okay, I didn’t really do all that, but I’m not lying. Strike the platform smashes from Donkey Kong Country The real group will be free next week.

Every week, the Epic Games Store gives away an entire game for free to anyone who has its launcher installed, and next week is no different. People who grew up playing stacking games like Super Mario World or Donkey Kong Country should dig through and download the launcher. Side scrolling panels are a rarity these days, so getting Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair free on the Epic Games Store is your chance to relive your childhood a bit.

Happy side scrolling

However, this 2.5D platformer (3D graphics with 2D perspective) is more than just your top platformer. There’s a massive 3D underworld and alternate level levels where you can dramatically change how a level works. I’ve always loved the fork routes and secret exits you can find in Super Mario World levels, so this fits my wheelhouse.

This week, the Epic Games Store is also giving away Daemon X Machina free, an action RPG where you jump into a mech directly from Gundam. Gifts are a great giveaway, as the game normally costs $49.99 USD, so be sure to pick it up if you haven’t already. If not, please pay attention Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair when it’s released for free next week on the Epic Games Store. The giveaway will run from February 3 to February 10.
