Tokyo Olympics: Olympic medalist Yogeshwar Dutt predicts, ‘India will win 8-12 medals’: Former Indian grappler Yogeshwar Dutt said on Friday he was confident the Indian contingent would return from the Tokyo Olympics with 8-12 medals.
The Tokyo Olympics will be declared open on Friday afternoon as the opening ceremony will be held with boxer Mary Kom and male hockey captain Manprit Singh as the flag bearers of India. “We have high expectations from our athletes. The whole country is praying for our athletes and we hope to win many medals. I think this time we can win 8-12 medals. Hockey, badminton, wrestling, all our athletes are in good shape, ”Yogeshwar told ANI.
“I think we can win 2-3 medals in wrestling and, God willing, they will see good things in wrestling. All of our athletes are hungry for medals. I am confident that we will have a better show than the London Olympics, ”he added.
Former Indian weightlifter Karnam Malleswari also agreed with Yogeshwar and said he also thinks India will return with 10-12 medals.
“We think positively, if we look at the performances of the past years, Mirabai Chanu performed well and I have high hopes for him. It depends on the planning, this time Mirabai has planned well and we hope he will win a medal. I think we can win 10-12 medals, ”Mallesvari said.
Twenty-five members of the Indian contingent will attend the opening ceremony on Friday at the National Stadium under the auspices of COVID-19 in the Japanese capital.
