Speaking to Elle about her own experiences as a trans teen, Finney said, “I was bullied in my freshman high school because I was queer. I didn’t know I was trans at the time, but for Elle to know she is trans and switch schools because of it is courage on another level.”

She added, “It’s so nice to see a normalized trans story on TV instead of seeing a narrative that focuses on gender dysphoria, bullying or the dark side that comes with being a trans person.”
