Yankees continue to be impressed by Estevan Florial

BOSTON – Estevan Florial could still be part of the Yankees’ long-term future.
At this point, however, they need him to produce now, and the 23-year-old delivered a vital hit in a fantastic game, 4-3 win over Red Sox at Fenway Park on Saturday.
His double lead over Nathan Eovaldi at the top of the eighth table set off a four-time rally.
“Everytime I’m with you [Florial] Personally, whether it’s spring training or a call-up, he always seems to do something,” said coach Aaron Boone. “It shows why we are excited for him. … It was a tough environment to play in, and he acquitted himself. “
The longtime prospect called his performance at the disc “compared to” and admitted that he wasn’t sure if he would stay here.
Florial said: “I was able to come here and help the team. “For now, it’s not about me. There will be time for the Yankees to make a decision. … I trust the Yankees. “
The Yankees are slowly making a full comeback following their COVID-19 outbreak.
Gio Urshela could be in the squad Sunday against the Red Sox depending on how he feels and Aaron Judge and Kyle Higashioka are expected to arrive in Boston on Sunday and with the team to Tampa on Monday.
Judge and Higashioka will conduct further checks to make sure they are ready to go, according to Boone, and will then practice at the team’s small compound in Tampa on Monday off.
When asked if Judge was likely to return in Tuesday’s opening game against the Rays, Boone pointed out more about the latter part of the series.
“I know Monday is a big day for him and [Higashioka],” Boone said.
He added the hard artificial turf at Tropicana Field won’t play a big part in whether Judge plays, even though it has hurt his feet in the past.
Chris Gittens left the game after tripping his stick on a hitter during the top eight match. He had his ankle X-rayed after the game and his condition on Sunday remains unknown. Luke Voit was present on the IL with left knee inflammation. DJ LeMahieu moved from third to first, with Tyler Wade, who had pitched for Giancarlo Stanton before, playing third.
The left-court Stanton test didn’t take place, but Boone says he’s “tilted” about playing him there for Sunday’s series final against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
It’s not clear why Sunday would be Stanton’s best day for the first time since 2019, as the Yankees hardly have enough qualified pros to put together a competitive roster, even with Stanton at DH.
Initial thought was that Stanton on the left would free up the DH position for someone else, but Judge and Urshela are still out with COVID-19. When asked if Gary Sanchez would get Sunday off if his back is healthy enough, Boone said that was not part of the plan.
However, Boone said Stanton was “likely” to play on the left side on Sunday.
“We’ve had a lot going on as a team with us in the last week or two,” Boone said of what will go into the decision on Sunday. “He is an option right now. … There is a good chance [Stanton] out there [Sunday]. “
Luis Severino According to Boone and pitching coach Matt Blake, it all worked out on Saturday again, and it went well.
Returning from a groin strain during his second rehabilitation in the February 2020 return from surgery on Tommy John, Severino faced Urshela and Tyler Wade in two 38-yard innings.
They will wait to see how the right-hander recovers before determining his next move, be it a three-round live BP or the start of rehabilitation in Tampa.
Boone said Corey Kluber feels good after his first bullpen session since being sidelined with a shoulder strain in May.
“That’s encouraging,” Boone said. “He’s lining up for another bull.”
Kluber is expected to rejoin the rotation before September.
Asher Wojciechowski elected free agency instead of taking the assignment for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Wojciechowski was appointed by the Yankees to make way for Sal Romano a day after the start of the Yankees’ win over the Phillies.
