Xbox Series S drive: Will there be a new model or can you use a USB Blu-ray drive?

One of the most significant disadvantages of Xbox Series WILL is that it’s missing a drive. Only more expensive Xbox Series X has the Blu-ray drive of two current-generation Xbox consoles. Unfortunately, that means the Series S can’t use physical media at all for games, movies, or music. This omission makes people wonder if Xbox will release Series S with the drive or if they can use it USB Blu-ray drive to read discs.
Will there be an Xbox Series S Disc Drive model?
Some are hoping that the Xbox Series S with drive will be released at a price point between the digital-only Series S and the Series X. One might think that Microsoft might have designed the Series S with upgradeability in mind. After all, it would be nice to just plug in a Blu-ray player and use physical media. The company did just that with the ill-fated HD-DVD player for the Xbox 360, so it’s not without precedent.
Unfortunately, the Blu-ray drive will not work when connected to the Series S. It is likely that the console lacks a driver to use the external Blu-ray drive and we do not believe Microsoft will. soon release a proprietary drive.
