Xbox praises Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The gaming giant and Xbox platform owner decided to praise The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, even though the game is a Nintendo exclusive.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the game of the year 2017 for many fans and critics. Nintendo’s epic open-world action-adventure was hailed as one of the most immersive experiences in the game, allowing players to set their own paths to defeating Ganon and returning the Beasts to their natural state.

At the Game of the Year Awards 2017, Breath of the Wild has won multiple wins, including Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, and Best Action/Adventure Game, and has been nominated for numerous other awards. Simply put, Breath of the Wild was a much loved game and is still used as a comparison game for the AAA open world released, with fans noting the difference between Breath of the Wild and Red Dead Redemption 2’s approach to riding, Eg.

Looks like it’s not just Nintendo fans who can appreciate Breath of the Wild though, as the gaming giant and Xbox platform owner recently took to Twitter to share his appreciation for the open-world adventure title. Xbox originally started a thread asking players what games made them feel at home. User @rogvc answered that question with Breath of the Wild, say they love to run around and explore. Xbox agrees with that opinion, asserting that “BotW provides such a relaxing sandbox experience (with the occasional deadly laser).”


Xbox’s Praise for Breath of the Wild received a positive response from fans. One user wrote “this is one of the many reasons why I love Xbox, they show respect and love the game in general.” This isn’t the first time Xbox has shown cross-platform praise, though. Head of Xbox Phil Spencer appeared on a podcast in July. praising PlayStation’s DualSense controller, introduced with the PS5. With Xbox even more willing to praise longtime rival Sony, many are beginning to see the end of the so-called “console wars” that have plagued gaming for generations.

The praise doesn’t just go one-way, though, Xbox has also received love from other platform operators. Former President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime on Xbox’s impact on the game industry at a panel celebrating the Xbox’s 20th anniversary. As Xbox continues to take new steps like releasing Series X/S and Game Pass, it looks like Xbox will make an impact for years to come.


Breath of the Wild its sequel is scheduled to be released in 2022 and many are speculating that the game will have some reveal line up for this year’s Game Awards. With almost five years since the game’s first release, Xbox has hailed Breath of the Wild is an indicator of how much impact a game has had on the industry.
