Among WWE’s latest cuts are Hit Row, who was recently called up to the main roster, veteran John Morrison, and more.
WWE released a host of other talents of his own, including Hit Row, and many of the stars have recently been moved from the company’s growing promotion to the main roster.
News of this latest release follows previous cuts due to WWE in early November. Most of the talent released in early November was from the company’s development program, NXT, making some of the cuts this time around even more surprising.
Eight stars have been removed from WWE including Jaxson Ryker, Shane Thomas, Drake Maverick, Tegan Nox, John Morrison and the remaining three members of Hit Row: Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Ashante “Thee” Adonis and Top Dolla. Some of these stars haven’t appeared on the WWE show for several months, while others just appeared earlier this week. Hit Row was previously called to the main roster in WWE Draft and has appeared on television ever since. As reported by Fightful, budget cuts are considered the reason for the release of these 8 WWE stars. Some have taken to social media to express gratitude to those who have supported them and to look forward to what comes after their 90-day no-competition clause.
This news comes shortly after the company cut back in early November, where WWE released a large portion of its roster. Previous Release talents including Ember Moon, Mia Yim, Franky Monet, Scarlett, Karion Kross, Keith Lee and Hit Row’s B-Fab. Monet, who is married to Morrison, took to Twitter to encourage people to invest in other wrestling promotions that value their staff and fans. Monet wrote, “Stop supporting a company that does NOT respect their talent. If you love pro wrestling, spend your money on hundreds of other alternatives. This is wrong. Ethical. They don’t care about us. Talent or fans.”
Once the per-star non-compete clause expires, they are free to appear at other wrestling promotions, meaning it’s likely some of these stars will be back on television soon. Figure. With the continued success of AEW, it’s possible the company will sign some debuting WWE talent. Others may appear on the indie circuit or wrestle for other promotions like New Japan Pro-Wrestling. In the coming months, a lot of talent will have contracts with WWE, making it possible for them to resign from the company to accept other offers.
Among them is Kevin Owens, Kyle O’Reilly, and Johnny Gargano. The continued loss of bright talent both on NXT and on major roster shows on RAW and SmackDown could affect the power some of these stars have in making decisions about their futures. Without assurance that they will not be released from the contract at any point due to budgetary issues, they may not resign. Instead, more people could follow Monet’s advice and support other companies.
