WWE 2K22 Review – A Revolution Spoiled By Disappointing Modes

Ours WWE 2K22 Reviews discuss how it is a solid foundation for the future of the series while also disappointing for Universe and MyGM.
This is the next installment in the main series from 2K and Visual concepts. Yuke is now completely gone, and 2K21 has been avoided so the developers can rebuild the game’s engine and combat.
The end result is an interesting and slick plate of cake but lacks ingredients that will disappoint fans.

WWE 2K22 review – entrance and graphics
The most notable difference between WWE 2K22 and disaster 2K20 are the graphics and the frontend. Every wrestler gets hit hard by the ugly stick 2K20but now most of them look like realistic photos and move like charismatic entertainers instead of rigid motion pictures.
Roman Reigns arguably has the best entrance with sage Paul Heyman, but almost everyone looks great. The long hair swings and falls realistically over her shoulders, and there are lifelike expressions from Sami Zayn rolling her eyes to Seth Rollins jutting into the ring.
The only downside is that the skin on some legends and some female wrestlers looks like plastic. Most women look great, but Mandy Rose and Trish Stratus are pretty far behind their real-life counterparts.
Another big difference is that the camera follows the wrestlers as they make their way to the ring. This provides a presentation that’s almost on par with WWE television, and fans will be delighted to know that the belt doesn’t penetrate clothing like it does on Edge’s jacket.
What a maneuver
Intuitive concept completely rebuilt combat and it’s the perfect balance between video games and simulation. It feels weird at first because muscle memory will bother you since 2K19but it’s quick and smooth once you get used to the controls.
Combining sounds difficult, but this is not Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter. Most wrestlers have the same combos available with just different moves at their end, and it’s easy to fool the combinations by hitting light and heavy hits.
The only problem with the gameplay changes is the irish whips. Now you must enter a grappling before you can push your opponent in a particular direction. This means you can no longer pull running whips into ropes or wheels. It slows down play and moving in a particular direction is too cumbersome.
“Every wrestler gets hit hard by an ugly stick in 2K20but now most of them look like real photos”
There is also no reverse limit anymore. This is a godsend for many fans, but you’ll need to play with the sliders if you want the challenge as it’s too easy to reverse even with lore difficulty.
Returning fans from previous games will notice major changes to the camera. You can’t change the default camera at all, but you probably won’t want to go back to older games because the new direction is awesome. The camera tracks you as you leave the ring, it cuts close-ups of specific moves so they feel really powerful and it doesn’t make the ring feel small even in multiplayer matches like Royal Rumble.
Unfortunately, while the gameplay is excellent, the commentary is still terrible. Hopefully we’ll have NFL legend Pat McAfee in the sequels, but for now, we’ve got to line up with the world’s most boring trio: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and Byron Saxton.
MyGM and Space Mode
MyGM and Universe Mode are the two most disappointing aspects of this WWE 2K22 review.
It’s hard to talk about Space Mode as no improvements have been made. Still no drafts, no new cutscenes, and still the same errors as an invisible wrestler arriving in the ring to take on a champion. Still only one on one opponents and tag team and every show is the same 2K20. Oh, and the ads have completely disappeared so more has been removed than added. Yes, there is a Superstar Mode, but this doesn’t change anything other than removing your powers as a preset. And that’s the point of Space Mode.
“Visual Combat concept completely rebuilt and it’s the perfect balance between video game and simulation”
Then there’s MyGM. It’s important to note that Total Management mode returns to be very enjoyable even against the AI when set to hard mode. Financial constraints and the draft team force you to get creative, and the viewership numbers and all the other logistics are a dream for us movie buffs. However, it was too bare.
You can only do 50 weeks max, which is really short if you simulate most matches. MyGM doesn’t have a middle belt or a team belt, you can’t trade wrestlers with an opponent’s brand, and there are too few matches per show. Again, there’s only one-on-one opponent and tag team, and you can’t play if an intervention is reserved.
Showcase, MyFaction and MyRise
Showcase is a mode you either love or hate. Personally speaking, it makes no sense since you can only watch most of the matches above WWE Network. The presentation is weird as regular music plays throughout the matches and this makes it hard to hear Rey Mysterio’s scripted narration. Visual Con Concept’s selection of matches was also difficult as there was no I Quit Match against Chavo Guerro, no 2006 Royal Rumble win and no WrestleMania 22 triple threat against Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. .
Meaning that not every epic match can be included as some wrestlers are no longer with E. However, this is why Showcase shouldn’t be a mode as there is no creative freedom. and it’s very limited. It would be better if resources and time are spent on other content.
MyRise is this year’s career and it’s the best mode in the game. Some texts are still read as Tommy Wiseau Room and it doesn’t help that the wrestlers’ voices are no longer as energetic or captivating as their television commercials.
However, although the presentation is not perfect, it is a million times better than the story of the mute and the sleeping man. 2K20. From joining the cult of the Second Night Messiah to fighting for the Universal Championship against Edge and Adam Pearce, this mode is truly fascinating. And we definitely recommend playing the heel test because it’s more fun than playing a scout boy whose face is exactly like the clean John Cena.
“MyGM has no middle cards or team belts… and there are too few matches per show”
Finally, there’s MyFaction. This is a brand new mode from Intuitive Concepts and many people will compare it to My team because the NBA 2K22. Those who like challenges, as well as card collecting and team building, will really enjoy this mode. Oddly enough, there isn’t a lot of competitive players, but this removes any pay-to-win element. Microtransactions are included, but the game doesn’t push you to spend money in real life, unlike FIFA and NBA.
Missing features and no new match type
Besides the disappointment of MyGM and Universe, it’s also frustrating that there isn’t a new type of combo.
There are no War Games despite the annual presence for NXT and we still don’t have a special guest referee. 2K requests fan feedback following disaster 2K20 and the third most requested feature is the return of missing combination types. Fans who have bothered to provide feedback may feel overlooked as the only feature heard is the return of General Manager mode. Yes, there’s a brand new backstage area for fights, but it’s not a new kind of match and it’s very naked.
And, in addition to the lack of new match types, one big feature is missing: an enhanced frontend. This is very disappointing as its omission was communicated to fans just days before the game’s launch and through a content creator on social media. Also it spoils the entrance of the CAW because we can’t specify multiple movements nor can we add different pyros and lights.
Future
Despite its annoying shortcomings, WWE 2K22 is a solid foundation for the future of the series. The entrance is breathtaking and the combat is almost perfect, so what needs to be improved next time are replayable modes like MyGM and Universe.
MyFaction will also benefit from a PvP multiplayer component, and a mode like Road to WrestleMania will be more interesting than the Showcase history channel. If most of these components can be fully realized, then wrestling fans will finally have another video game to watch with gusto like. SmackDown vs Raws and This will bring pain.
