Wrought Flesh is a biopunk RPG where players equip their dead enemy’s organs
The indie game Wrought Flesh is an upcoming biopunk FPS game with a unique deterministic RPG feature that allows the player to equip stat-based organs.
Games that are independently developed and released are often overlooked or don’t get the recognition they might deserve due to the lack of marketing that big budget titles get. But of course, many phenomena indie games like Encode have been praised for their nuance, innovation and surprising artistic design.
Small indie games are often created by sincere developers, for whom they are passionate projects, or may simply be an attempt of experimentation and exploration to see what they can create. What kind of experience? Recently, the latest upcoming game from a full-time indie developer, Forged meat, has been further shown, demonstrating the influence from Classic PlayStation low-poly graphics.
“Miziziziz,” aka Narayana Walters, shared more details and footage of their independently developed game. Walters very succinctly gives a summary of the genre Forged meat as a “biopunk FPS RPG” before thoroughly explaining how they can achieve the flowing hair physics for Forged meatprotagonist of the main character, hinting that a third-person perspective mode may also be available for players to view. But Forged meatIts most unique identifying feature is the mechanism of taking the organs of dead enemies to equip them in the body of the Gajeshian Cultist.
The equipped organs provide stats that correspond to maximum health, health regeneration, speed, and even the so-called “digestion” stat. This organ equip feature displays both the dissected enemy carcass and the player’s body on the menu screen, where the player then drags and drops the guts and internal organs they wish to equip themselves. The player then advances through Forged meat and encounter diverse monsters and “medicated space robbers” as a “myth almost built from the bodies of long-dead saints.”
Walters suggested that “You kill everything, eat corpses, equip organs but it’s all very low resolution and little” in his “adult content description” Forged meatand this simple synopsis of the game could be enough to captivate any fan of the wacky, wacky FPS. Indeed, while Forged meatRPG’s hook sounds intriguing in and of itself, the game’s environment and enemy design is superb and teases top-notch boss battles with Terraworm and other fantasy creatures.
Other Walters indie titles include Crossroads, They love you the most, and StarPrey, all of which can also be found on Steam. Forged meat coming soon on Steam.
Forged meat currently slated to release on December 10 for PC.
