After their first World Series championship in more than a quarter of a century, Atlanta Braves exercised their 2024 club option to manager Brian Snitker, the team announced Tuesday. Snitker currently has three more seasons on his contract.

Snitker, 66, is a Braves athlete who first joined the organization as an untrained free agent in 1977. He played four seasons for the pre-teens team. when he jumped in as a minor league coach and started moving up. Snitker served as Atlanta’s bullpen coach (1985, 1988-90) and third-base coach (2007-13) while also performing some coaching and managing in minors.

The Braves fired coach Fredi Gonzalez in May 2016 and appointed Snitker, then coach Triple-A, their interim captain. He was awarded the position full-time after the season, and under Snitker’s watch, the Braves were 441-390 (0.531) in sections of six seasons. They have won the last four NL East titles outside of the 2021 World Series.

“I think this is kind of – baseball players – that’s what we do. We fight through adversity. We brood. After a while, that’s what you do. It’s not. who you are, it’s what you do,” Snitker said after the team’s World Series win.

“You just keep fighting and trying to get through because you never know. Like I said, people in the minor leagues, you never know what could happen. It happened. I have a chance. There are a lot of people out there, like me, who have gone through a lot and caused their families to go through a lot, and not everyone has achieved it. was lucky enough to get a chance.”

Snitker was named NL Manager of the Year in 2018. He placed fourth in this year’s poll and has been in the top four in the poll every year since 2018.
