Blizzard Entertainment is changing the drop rate for exclusive mounts and pets obtained from the World of Warcraft 17th Anniversary event.
World of Warcraft, the massively multiplayer online game that took the world by storm in November 2004, celebrates its 17th anniversary with an event that runs from November 15 to December 6. A game that’s almost old enough for vote, lifespan of World of Warcraft is a testament to the game’s popularity, and each year, players are rewarded with in-game gifts ranging from mounts and pets to achievements and fireworks.
This year’s celebration rewards are themed around the game’s Illidari, a group of demon hunters created by Iconic Warcraft Illidan Stormrage character, as well as the Cave of Time where the Bronze Dragon Lantern maintains the delicate integrity of Azeroth’s timelines.
Players can start the celebratory event simply by logging in, which will earn the Feat of Strength achievement for this year’s celebration. Other rewards can be obtained by choosing a quest in Tanaris provided by Chromie, a fan-favorite character representing the Bronze Dragon Lantern, where she will direct them to defeat the new world boss in the area, Doomwalker.
Players who have little interest in the cosmetic rewards the event provides, by completing the quests, will be rewarded with tokens that increase the experience and reputation gained by 17% for the duration of the event. (that is, until December 6). In terms of cosmetics and collectibles, however, two of the coolest items one can get from the new boss are the Illidari Doomhawk mount and the Timeless Muscle Dragon.
Before a hotfix was deployed last night, World of Warcraft players complain of an unreasonably low chance of dropping not only for mounts, but also pets and any related items of Doomwalker’s loot table, reporting an estimated 1% drop probability . Their main criticism of Blizzard’s decision stems from the idea that a celebratory event shouldn’t unduly stress players out or worry about gaining a limited-time mount based entirely on luckily, quote that World of Warcraft suffered too much from RNG-like mechanics.
In response, Blizzard Entertainment decided to make the drop rate for both mounts and pets 100% fixed, so it’s effectively a guaranteed drop rate. Since this hotfix has no retroactive effect, players who have robbed the boss will not be eligible to rob him again until the next daily reset.
As new details about Activision Blizzard’s chaotic legal troubles and healing workplace culture continued to appear again, celebrating this year in the world of Azeroth sad feeling bittersweet.

Outriders are adding a transmog system in the new Horizons update and this is probably one of the best implemented methods ever.
