A woman was shot in the head Wednesday night while walking through the Upper East Side neighborhood in New York City, police said.
According to a spokesman for Mayor Eric Adams’ office, the woman was pushing a stroller when she was attacked. She was shot once in the head by a man who approached her from behind. He then ran from the scene, authorities told CBS New York.
According to several reports, she was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The baby in the stroller, identified as 3 months old by both CBS and PIX11, was “reportedly unharmed,” City Council Member Julie Menin said an update shared on Twitter.
“I pray for this victim and am devastated by this relentless and senseless violence,” Menin said.
The unidentified suspect, described as a man dressed in black and a hoodie, was still at large when Mayor Adams made his way to the location at East 95th Street and Lexington Avenue.
This is breaking news and will be updated.
