Months ago, before Windows 11 shipped, beta users complained that Windows 11 slowed down their random write speeds by more than half on NVMe SSDs.
Now, three months later and two months after the launch of the operating system, it seems the problem persists.
Recent CrystalDiskMark benchmarks of the Samsung 980 Pro SSD performed by PleasedPen25317 show a significant drop in random write speeds for any partition with Windows 11 installed.
Windows 10 and Windows 11
The cause of the performance loss is still undetermined, although some fingers point to virtualization-based security.
Three months ago, a Microsoft representative acknowledged the issue on Reddit, but it doesn’t appear that this has resulted in any resolution. Hopefully the renewed attention on this issue will lead to some remedial action in the near future.
