Barker’s absence came after she was close to tears during last week’s Queen’s tournament.

She interviewed Queen’s Champion Matteo Berretini when he paid her tribute and surprised her.

He said: “I just want to congratulate you on your career. I heard it will be your last queen and your last Wimbledon so good luck for the rest of your beautiful life and congratulations.”

A visibly emotional Barker then said, “I’m bubbly now, oh dear.”

“It would have been 25 years and seemed like a good time but I’m so glad I made the decision to move on.

“I’m very glad to be leaving with no regrets and on my own terms while still at the top of the job. It just feels like the right time to go and let others do it.”
