Will there be Derry Girls season 4? Is there a movie planned?

It follows the story of five friends, Erin Quinn (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), Orla McCool (Louisa Harland), Claire Devlin (Nicola Coughlan), Michell Mallon (Jamie Lee O’Donnell) and James Mcguire (Dylan Llewellyn) as they navigate son, birthday and family drama.

The final episode of season 3 will air on Channel 4 on May 17, with a special bonus episode dropping later that week.

There will be no season 4 of Derry Girls, with season 3 being the final installment of the series.

Derry’s native girl and showrunner, Lisa McGee, announced that they would not be returning for a fourth season in a statement in September 2021.

“It’s always been a plan to say goodbye after three series,” said McGee.

“Derry Girls is a coming-of-age story: follows 5 ridiculous teenagers as they slowly…very slowly…start to become adults, while all around them, the place they call home also began to change and Northern Ireland entered a new hope than phrase – it was a small, magical window of time. “

The Derry Girls season three finale will air at 9 p.m. on May 17 on Channel 4.

Speaking to the Guardian, Dylan Llewellyn, who plays James explained that the series’ epilogue would come to, “a perfect conclusion.”

The Derry Girls bonus episode, called “The Deal,” will air the day after the season 3 finale on Channel 4 at 9pm on May 18.

The special will kick off the year and follow the group of friends as they prepare for their final year of school, just before the Good Friday Agreement is signed.

The episode’s synopsis reads: “It was the week of the Good Friday Agreement referendum and its timing couldn’t have been worse because of the standout event of the year, the party. Erin and Orla’s joint 18th birthday, in danger of being overshadowed.

“As the family tried to learn about the possible outcomes of the vote, the gang realized they might not be ready for what the future holds.”

McGee took to Twitter to announce the bounty episode, tweeting, “Surprise, surprise.”

In a statement announcing the episode, McGee called the special episode “a salute to our loyal fans.”

There are currently no plans for a Derry Girls movie.

On the red carpet of the season three premiere in Derry, McGee dispelled rumors of plans to make Sunday Life.

She said: “A movie is not in my sights at the moment, not right now. You never know, but I have other commitments, as does Michael.”

However, when asked about the possibility of a spin-off series, McGee commented, “What I’d like to do is do a spin-off with Ma Mary and Aunt Sarah solving crimes and setting up a detective agency in Derry. ?”
