Will America ever see a wildly popular president again?

Not all of that is Trump’s fault. He is the second president to serve in an era where presidential approval ratings are constrained by marked partisan polarization. The first is Barack Obama, who, after a brief honeymoon in 2009, quickly received his approval rating mainly defined because of how much he was loved by Democrats and hated by Republicans. When Trump was elected, that relationship changed, but the impact remained the same. And now there’s Biden, who has seen the second-largest partisan approval gap – 84 points between parties – in Gallup history.
