Why Fortnite’s Chapter 3 Season 4 Battle Pass is mind-blowing

On September 18th, Epic Games launched the fourth season of Chapter 3 of Fourteen days. The new season entitled paradise, contains a mysterious substance called Chrome, which is taking over the island. Season 4 will take fans through December 3rd, just in time for Fourteen days to receive its annual winter overhaul. Of course, a new season also means a new Battle Pass.

The Battle Pass, first introduced in Chapter 1 Season 2, completely changed that Fourteen days reward system. While the game is free to play, the Battle Pass allowed Epic to still get some cash from players who didn’t want to spend it in the item shop and instead gave them the opportunity to unlock better rewards the more they played. Epic has always gone out of its way to cram some highly prized skins and emotes into the Battle Pass, but this season it seems to have dropped the ball.

The best rewards for this season’s Battle Pass

While the options are definitely lighter this season, there are still some great options to go for Fourteen days Players who purchased the Battle Pass. There are the typical 100 V-Bucks rewards scattered around the pages of the pass, which can be purchased for five Battle Stars. There are also a few unique emoticons and loading screens that can be unlocked.

However, the greatest appeal of the Battle Pass has always been the skins. Right on the first page Fourteen days Fans can unlock Paradigm, one of the game’s ongoing protagonists, based on and voiced by Brie Larson. On later pages, players can also purchase different styles for Paradigm.

The other desires Fourteen days Skin is Spider-Gwen, the final reward in the Battle Pass. The character is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The comic plays alternatively Spiderman Universe where Peter Parker’s love interest Gwen Stacy was bitten by the radioactive spider, rather than Peter. Fourteen days always has a skin for players to work towards at the end of their Battle Pass, and this season will be no different.

Fortnite needs to do better

Despite the few coveted rewards, the rest of the unlockables for Chapter 3 Season 4 leave a lot to be desired. Spider-Gwen and Paradigm are the only two that stand out from the crowd, while the rest lag far behind. The rest of the skins are either obscure characters from other IPs or original Fourteen days creations. While some original skins like Meow Skulls can create new fan bases, these haven’t submerged Fourteen days Lore can feel abandoned.

In addition to the lack of desirable skins, Fourteen days skipped all of the high-level emotes from this season’s Battle Pass. This season, there are two emotes specific to the Chrome storyline, a Marvel Series emote, and two other emotes with rarity Uncommon. Options are both sparse and unremarkable.

The Battle Pass system is generally a difficult balance to master. Epic wants to reward players who buy it each season, but not give them so much that players stop spending money in the item shop. However, it appears that Epic made the decision to remove the mid-tier rewards players earn on their journey to unlocking the rarer skins and emotes.

The appeal of Fourteen days has always been its free-to-play nature. Fans can always upgrade cosmetics, but there’s nothing players can buy or unlock that gives them a competitive edge, which is a rarity in the video game world. However, a large majority of players still buy the Battle Pass each season. If Epic wants to keep this loyal customer base, it needs to offer more value to players.

Fourteen days is free to play on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
