Why fans are not happy about the free PS Plus game for February 2022
Every month, PlayStation Plus Subscribers get to see a bunch of new free games they can add to their collection. Free PS Plus games for February 2022 are EA Sports UFC 4 and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure on PS4 and Planet Coaster: Console Edition on PS5. The most obvious problem one can point out with these games is that two of the three are quite old, with the original version of Planet Coaster launched in 2016 and the original version of Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep Released in 2013.
All in all, the free PlayStation Plus games include relatively newer titles from the past few years, especially when it comes to PS5 offerings. Sony has established a clear pattern that most Free PS5 PS Plus games are new releases – a model it’s only broken a few times since the launch of the next-gen console. PS5 version of Planet Coaster: Console Edition is the title coming out for PS5 in 2020, and so not only is the original version six years old, but the PS5 version is over a year old as well.
Since PS5 gamers with PS Plus are used to receiving new games every month, it’s understandable that they can be overwhelmed by Planet Coaster. Then when a person further talks about the fact that Planet Coaster is an amusement park simulator and thus a fairly niche game, which makes even more sense why PS Plus subscribers are upset. And this doesn’t mean Planet Coaster is a bad game by any means. Opposite, Planet Coaster received mostly positive reviews at the time of issue; it’s just old compared to what PS Plus subscribers on PS5 are used to in exchange for their subscription fees.
Being targeted at a niche audience is also a problem for EA Sports UFC 4. Sports games are generally niche games, and then the specific sport they represent will limit the potential audience interested in playing them further. Like Planet Coaster: Console Edition, EA Sports UFC 4 evaluate most are positive, but it’s safe to assume that the only people interested in playing it are UFC heavyweight fans and it’s hard to say how much overlap between UFC enthusiasts and PlayStation Plus subscribers.
And then there’s Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventurewhich seems to be the biggest point of contention for many PS Plus subscribers who are upset about the free games in February 2022. Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-Shot Adventure is the stand-alone version of border zone 2 The original DLC was released in 2013. It sold for just $9.99 on the PlayStation Store, making it one of the lowest value free PS Plus games ever, and not only that, but its content has been made available for free through PS Plus in the past.
Borderlands: Handsome Collection is a free PS Plus game a few years ago, and it included the original version of Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep, not to mention many other content. So between that and the incredibly short length of the game, it’s no surprise that there are PS Plus subscribers unhappy with what February 2022 will bring.
