The Azumabito in Attack on Titan Explained

In Attack on Titan, the Azumabito is an influential family that branched from the Shogun Clan. Interestingly, Shogun Clan was a close ally to the Eldian Empire when the walls were built. A member of the Shogun Clan was a close friend to King Fritz.

However, after the King erased memories of the Eldians, that member and his bloodline were thrown out of the walls. The bloodline that stayed within the walls was hunted down, including Mikasa’s clan. Well, the clan that settled outside the walls later became the Azumabito clan.

Interestingly, the same Azumabito family is responsible for the technology behind the flying boat. Like it was suggested in the episode, Onyakopon can easily fly the boat. However, it would be impossible to get the ship ready without the Azumabito mechanics, who were trapped with Kiyomi by the Yeagerists.

So, Mikasa and others decide to save Kiyomi so that the Azumabito mechanics would help them to prepare the boat.
