Heard’s sister, Whitney Henriquez, who was present at many of the alleged incidents, has shared her side of the story. Depp denies all allegations of assault.

Here’s everything you need to know.

The 34-year-old former actress and model was born in Austin, Texas.

In 2007 she played the role of Ugna in Homo Erectus, but left acting to work in hospitality.

Whitney is married to Gavin Henriquez and the couple have two children together.

She is very close to her sister, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Heard described Whitney as “my best friend, she’s my accomplice”.

Whitney was even living with her sister Amber early in her relationship with Depp.

What was said in court?

The sister lived in the same apartment complex as the couple and admitted under cross-examination that she had sometimes acted like the couple’s “marriage counselor”.

Here are the key things to take away from Whitney’s testimony in court:

Whitney claims the beginning of the relationship was good

Reflecting that the beginning of the relationship was happy, she said she had never “seen my sister fall so madly in love with someone.”

She added: “They seem to really hit it off and get along well. But very quickly, over the course of their relationship, this pattern emerged that when Johnny was on drugs, there was almost always a fight.”

The incident on the stairs

Recalling an argument that took place after the couple’s wedding, Whitney said Depp ran up a flight of stairs and punched her in the back.

She explained Heard retaliated, explaining, “I hear Amber yell, ‘Don’t hit my f***ing sister!’ She hits him – lands one.”

She then testified that Depp “grabbed Heard’s hair with one hand and repeatedly slapped her in the face with the other.”

Reflecting on Depp’s sobriety, she testified that “there was almost always a fight when he was doing drugs or drinking.”

She added, “He was sober for a while and then fell off the wagon almost as quickly and started using or drinking and there was a big outburst and it seemed to be going back and forth quite frequently.”

Depp’s legal team disagreed with Whitney’s choice of the word “use.”

The Heards grew up with abuse in their household

Depp’s lawyers questioned Whitney and asked if they were ever hit as children.

She explained that her father would hit both sisters.

When asked if Amber ever protected her from this abuse, she said, “We would certainly protect each other.”

Who else has taken a stand?

Two other witnesses for Heard took the stand on Wednesday.

The first was her former makeup artist, Melanie Inglessis, who testified that she covered up Heard’s bruises.

Inglessis explained that she had to cover up injuries to Heard’s face for her appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in December 2015.

Inglessis said, “We covered the discoloration, the bruising with a little bit heavier concealer.”

The second witness was Raquel Pennington, who described herself as a friend of Depp and Heard and had formerly lived in Depp’s Los Angeles penthouse.

Pennington, who is no longer close to the couple, expressed her concerns about the relationship.

She said: “In the beginning [of the relationship]I wasn’t worried.

“Towards the end, when the physical abuse became more apparent, I became concerned. I was concerned for her physical safety.

“I was concerned that if he turns around he might actually do something worse than he ever intended.”

When will the Depp vs. Heard trial end?

The trial between Depp and Heard is scheduled to end on May 27th.

It is then up to the jury to make the final verdict after deliberating.
