White House support staffer exposed Jan. 6 as witness who allegedly tried to call

The witness former President Donald Trump allegedly tried to call after hearing testimony from former Mark Meadows assistant Cassidy Hutchinson in the House of Representatives on Jan. 6 has been revealed to be a member of the White House support staff.

Trump’s attempts to contact the witness were revealed by Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in a statement at the end of Tuesday’s hearing. The person’s identity was not released, but Cheney said Trump tried to call the person after the committee’s last hearing on June 28.

It is believed that the individual was a witness who would be able to verify aspects of Hutchinson’s testimony. The witness did not answer the call and immediately transferred it to his attorney, who then “passed this information on to the Justice Department,” Cheney said.

According to CNN, the person would not normally have come into contact with the former president and “was concerned about the contact.” Sources told CNN “the location of the witness Trump was trying to call, but not the name of the person.”

At the time of Tuesday’s bombing announcement, Cheney warned, “We will make every effort to take witness testimony very seriously.”

Representatives of the House of Representatives selection committee and a Trump spokesman have not commented on the matter.

Speaking to CNN on Tuesday, Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA), who is a member of the committee, said “we take it very seriously when individuals contact potential witnesses for the January 6 committee.” We won’t be intimidated.” He said the White House aide treated Trump’s attempted call “exactly how we would like it to be treated.”
