While the 12,500-capacity arena will be filled with Eurovision fans, hundreds of millions more will watch from home.

Italy has been awarded the key to Eurovision after taking the top spot in the 2021 competition.

How are Eurovision host countries chosen?

As is tradition at Eurovision, the winner of the previous year will host the competition the following year.

However, in the event that one country is unable to host the event, another country may be authorized to host on their behalf.

The host city is selected by the country’s own Eurovision committee, with each potential host city submitting a plan for how they will present the competition.

Who is the favorite to win Eurovision 2022?

Kalush Orchestra could win the competition for the nation for the first time since Jamala brought the trophy to Kyiv in 2016.

If it wins, the current situation could mean Ukraine cannot host the event. In this case, another country with immediate capacity, such as Germany, could host on their behalf.
