Where to find rhododendrons?
With the Caves and Cliffs update in Patch 1.7 and 1.8, Mojang has added many new features to Minecraft, and one of them is a rare version of oak.
In Minecraft, blocks are everything. For most players, the game is about collecting different blocks and using them to build complex projects that fit their vision. With Of Minecraft 1.17 update, the first part of Caves and Cliffs, the development team at Mojang added the Rhododendron tree, a rare variant of the Oak tree that grows on grassy blocks. This article will cover where to find them, how to get them, and what they bring.
Azalea Trees in Minecraft
The surest way to find Rhododendrons Minecraft is looking for lush caves, a temperate Overworld cave biome, as the Rhododendrons spawn directly on top of them. In contrast, the best means of finding lush caves is to spot the Rhododendron. Caves spawn at any height underground, with trees spawning on an empty, available space at the top. Since their roots, including dirty roots and hanging roots, reach as far as lush caves (even up to 80 blocks), this also makes them the only plants in the game with underground roots.
Mechanically speaking, a Rhododendron in Minecraft is an oak tree with rhododendron leaves, and as such, the player can only obtain oak logs from harvesting with tools or hands. Other items of interest include azalea leaves and Flowering Azalea Leaves, which are harvested with scissors, however, the player can obtain azaleas and azaleas respectively.
The player can grow their own rhododendrons through these items by using bone meal on them, replacing the planted azalea block with rooted soil. Similar to saplings, this method works on any so many, so much Minecraft biomes, and the player is not bound to only grow azaleas in lush caves.
Apparently the other method involved finding lush caves in cave systems, including caves such as abandoned ships or ravines. One important thing to note is that although the plants usually appear on the surface, it is still possible for the Rhododendrons to spawn inside lush caves if there is enough room.
Although there is no negativity associated with the Rhododendron, some players feel that Minecraft will receive a new Overworld tree after the last one was added more than 8 years ago in Of Minecraft Patch 1.7, citing oak overgrowth as one of the reasons why Azalea trees should be given their own type of wood. As it stands, the Rhododendron is a welcome and appropriate addition to the game, but one that hasn’t reached its full potential.
