Where to find Larvitar in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Larvitar is a sought-after Pokémon in any game it’s in, not only because of its popularity, but also because it’s one of the very few species that achieves pseudo-legendary status — otherwise known as a Pokémon that has Total stats on par with the legends.

Thanks to Grand Underground, players can actually capture all five of the fake histories in Brilliant diamond and Shining pearls, the same is true of the original fourth-generation titles.

Of the five Pokémon that can be obtained in that category, Larvitar’s evolution line is the only one that ends in a completely unique type combination, as Tyranitar becomes Rock/Dark type. This gives it a direct advantage over Dragonite and Salamence, while it also has some advantages over Metagross — just avoid Garchomp like the plague.

Sorry, you won’t be able to get Larvitar in BDSP until you complete the main story and become the Champion of Sinnoh.

Once you are the Champion, you will be able to face Larvitar. But first you need to complete the Sinnoh Pokédex, in order to enter the National Pokédex. This will allow you to visit Ramanas Park to the southeast of Sandgem Town, talk to Professor Oak and get the Poke Radar.

The Poké Radar is a handy device you can use to catch rare Pokémon in tall grass on various routes. This is also the only method currently available to obtain Larvitar in the underworld, as you need to go straight to Route 207 to the North of Oreburgh City.

Larvitar has a 12 percent spawn rate when using Poké Radar, so you just need to keep checking for those wobbly patches in the grass until you find your own.

Additionally, it is available in the Grand Underground when a National Pokémon appears in the Rocky Cave and Big Bluff Cavern Pokémon Hideaways.

Unfortunately for anyone playing Shining pearls, Larvitar is a Brilliant diamond to exclude, to expel. So if you want to have your own, you should probably find a friend to trade with. Maybe you can give a Bagon in exchange as it’s also an exclusive version.
