Stardew Valley Wizard House

At the beginning of autumn on first year in Stardew Valley, the player will unlock a special orders board in front of Mayor Lewis’ house. The board offers massive collecting quests with valuable and often unique rewards. One of the quests offered is “A Curious Substance”, posted by the Wizard. To complete the quest, the player will need to collect a batch of Ectoplasm and bring it to the Wizard on time.

Ectoplasm can only be found when defeating Ghosts and has a 9.5% chance of being dropped. Players will meet the first standard Ghosts on Floor 51 of Mines, and they have a chance to spawn on every floor between then and Floor 79. This is probably the easiest place to find Ectoplasm for the quest “A Curious Substance”, as these Ghosts are the weakest type in the game. .

There are also Ghosts of Carbon and Ghosts of Putrid that can appear in Skull Cavern or dangerous versions of Mines. All three variants can drop Ectoplasm.

Ghost Hunting Tips for Stardew Valley

Player fights a ghost in Stardew Valley

Ghosts are one of the more complicated things monster in Stardew Valley, due to the ability to go through walls and dodge after each hit. The ghosts will begin drifting towards the player as soon as they reach a new level of Mines or Skull Cavern. Although they can overcome obstacles, their flight speed is slower than bats so it can take a while for them to arrive.

Ghost has a high amount of HP and damage, but is very vulnerable to bullets due to its slow speed. Unfortunately, the Ghosts will slide back a long distance each time they are hit and it will take a few seconds for them to get back into range. This can be especially frustrating when fighting other enemies, and makes killing Ghosts very time consuming. The best strategy to deal with the Ghosts of Stardew Valley is to use slow, heavy weapon, giving them little chance to retreat and attack again.
