Although there’s no sign of Darkrai yet, the Lunar Duo still has some representation in it Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining pearls thanks to the inclusion of Cresselia. Psychic type legends can be found deep within the post-game and are one of the more difficult and frustrating games. Legendary Pokemon to catch up in the gen 4 remake. Thankfully, though, there’s a strategy or two that can make the task a little less daunting.
What makes Cresselia elusive isn’t her low catch rate, nor her immense strength, but instead, how the player actually confronts her in the first place. As veterans of the series will know, Pokemon roaming can be an absolute nightmare to track down, and this is happening again in the future. Brilliant diamond & Shining pearls. As before Pokemon however, there are some tricks that can speed up this process.
Where to find Cresselia in brilliant diamonds & shining pearls
Before players can capture Cresselia, they must first defeat Cynthia and then upgrade their Pokedex by returning to Rowan’s lab after encountering all 151 Pokemon native to the Sinnoh region. The latter sounds tough, but players should have seen all but a handful of them by the end of the story, with only Drifloon (back to Valley Windworks after defeating Team Galactic), Lumineon (evolves from Finneon at level 31), and Palkia or Dialga (talk to Cynthia’s grandmother in Celestic Town) are missing from most of the player’s games after a regular run.
After unlocking the National Pokedex, players should find their way to Canal City. Upon arrival, they will have to stop at Sailor Eldritch’s house, on the west side of the city next to the ship. Inside, they’ll find the captain’s son suffering from terrible nightmares, with the game showing Darkrai to be the one to blame. After interacting with the sick child, the player should go back outside and talk to Sailor Eldritch himself, who can be found standing near the ship just to the right of the house.
Eldritch will explain that he needs to get hold of a Lunar Feather to heal his son and will ask the player to accompany him to Fullmoon Island, where they should obviously agree. It was only a small island, with a lone path leading to a clearing, in which Cresselia awaited. However, the moment the player interacts with her, the Pokemon will flee, despite thankfully leaving the Lunar Feather for the sick child. After returning to Eldritch and Canalave City, players can begin to prepare for another nasty chase.
How to find Pokemon roaming in glowing diamonds & shining pearls
Like the game’s other roaming Pokemon, Culprit, capturing Cresselia can be extremely frustrating. Players will again need to use the Marked Map on Poketch to track the Pokemon’s location, aim to take the same route she’s on, and then encounter her in a random battle. She can spawn in long grass or on water and has a very high spawn rate if the player can get to her location before she moves. Sadly, however, the latter is easier said than done.
To speed up the process, the player can control Cresselia’s movements by repeatedly crossing one of the invisible borders to join a city using one of its connecting routes. Jubilife City is a great location for this, as it not only has four different exits, but only one of these requires the player to go through a building. Once Cresselia spawns on a path that connects to Jubilife, the player should walk to her, save their game, and then trigger a land or water encounter. If Cresselia does not appear, they should restart the software and try again.
How to catch Cresselia in brilliant diamonds & shining pearls
If encountering Cresselia wasn’t hard enough, catching her could be an absolute nightmare. Her first action will always be to run away, which means players will need to act decisively if they want to add her to their team. Some may choose to weaken a Pokemon using False Swipe and then repeat the steps above to trigger another encounter. Much better to use Hypnosis to put her to sleep or Mean Look to prevent her from running away, both can be learned by the Gastly evolutionary line.
Another strategy involves throwing an Ultra Ball immediately and then reloading the moment Cresselia exits. It’s not exactly quick, but it’s certainly effective, especially if the player weakens the Pokemon first and then uses this method during their second encounter with Cresselia. Also, those with little patience may just want to use Master Ball, as, based on gameplay mechanics, it can certainly be argued that, along with Mesosystem, Cresselia is the hardest Pokemon to catch Brilliant diamond & Shining pearls and thus guarantee the use of such a rare item.
The Mario and Luigi RPG series was recently discontinued, but a new game in the spirit of Bowser’s Inside Story could bring it back in style.
