Where can you get black sludge in Pokémon HGSS – FandomSpot

There are 3 places and methods where you can get black sludge:
1. You can find a single black sludge on the floor deep in the Cerulean Cave after you have earned all the Kanto Gym Badges.
2. You can also farm black sludges by using a clever combination of the moves Thief and Worry Seed against Elite Four member Kogas MUK (we will treat this more detail below).
3. If you want to have this item before you clear all the canto fitness studios, Wilde Croagunk in the Marshland area of the Safari zone has a chance of 5 %-but you have to place 42 forest blocks before you appear.
Pokémon of the GIFT type that wear a black sludge, regenerate at the end of each round 1/16 of its maximum HP, similar to remnants.
If the Pokémon, which holds the Black Sludge, is not of the type of poison, it will suffer 1/8 of its maximum health as damage instead of healing it in every round – so you can also use moves to change objects such as trick or Switcheroo, to arm your sludge.
We will go through the methods below to get our own black sludge.
Method 1: The black mud that is hidden in the Cerulean cave
To find the only black sludge that is hidden in the upper world, you first have to earn all 16 arena badges.
As soon as you have done that, go to Cerulean City.
You have to bring a Pokémon with surfing and a Pokémon with lightning if you want to see it as soon as you are in the cave. It can also be a good idea to bring a Pokémon with a ditch or a escape rope because they will travel deep into the cave.
After all, Cerulean Cave contains the hardest wild Pokémon in the game – so bring a strong team or lots of repels.
As soon as you have arrived in Cerulean City, take the north exit to Route 24.

Cross the golden bridge to Route 25, then turn left as soon as the bridge ends and go down the stairs.

Use at the foot of the Surf on the Water stairs at the area shown below.

Surf as far as possible to the south from here and follow the river to the left.
You will soon come to the entrance to the Cerulean Cave. If you have successfully collected all 8 canto badges, nobody should block the entrance.

Go inside and use Flash to illuminate your surroundings.
When you have illuminated the cave, go straight ahead and surf the first body of water you encounter.

Surf the north and take the first left curve you encounter.

Follow this section of the river as far as possible to the left and then go south until you reach the first staircase that is shown below. Coste here.

Take the way south.
Follow this one -way path for a while until you reach a ladder at the top of a steep staircase, as shown below.

Climb the ladder and you will dive into a intimidating crystal labyrinth.
Don’t worry, the way is easier than it seems. Simply take the northern option on the first fork to which you come to.

Shortly after this junction you get a second fork. Take the right option.

After that, it is so easy to follow the remaining one -way path until you reach some stairs and a ladder that leads down one floor. Climb down the ladder.

When you climb down the ladder, you are in a small room where another ladder leads deeper into the cave. Climbing on this too.
Follow the one -way path north on the next floor until you reach the intersection shown below – take the second junction to the right.

Follow this path until you reach a water. Surfing.

Surf to the right and then directly north.
Soon you should reach the small bank shown below. Coste here.

As soon as you are on land, take your way north. Follow the bend and back south until you come to another water stain. Surf here.

Surf to the south and take the second junction to the right, as shown below.

Follow this thin section of the river until it meets dry land. Jump from your Pokémon and collect the object on the floor.
This will be the black mud.

Method 2: Black sludges made of kogas muk
With this method you can quickly collect as many black sludges as you want.
All you need is:
- 8 Fitness studio badges and access to the Elite Four on the Indigo Plateau
- A relatively strong Pokémon that Thief knows (you can get the TM 46 for Thief in the Rocket Hideout team from Mahogany Town)
- A relatively strong Pokémon that knows WORRY SEED (which Pokémon learn this, we will show you below)
- A team that is able to defeat Elite Four members-Dark, Ghost and Bug-Pokémon with ease is best suited for this
The idea is to use Thief to steal the Black Sludge, the Elite Four member Kogas Muk to win back his HP.
However, Koga’s Muk has the ability Sticky Hold that prevents his own object from being stolen or destroyed. So you have to deactivate MUK’s skills.
Here worry -seeds come into play.
Worry seed replaces the ability of the opposing Pokémon with insomniaThis prevents this Pokémon from falling asleep so that you can steal its object.
The easiest way is to get Worry Seed (note – the further developed forms of these Pokémon also learn Worry Seed, you only have to wait a few additional levels).
Pokemon | Locations | Level when it learns to worry seeds |
---|---|---|
Exeggcute | Headbutting trees on routes 26, 27, 30, 31, 32, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 43, 47 and 48 as well as New Bark Town, CherryGrove City, Violet City, Ecruteak City National Park, the Lake of Rage and the Safari Zone Gate | 33 |
Hoppip | Route 48 (all -day) and the routes 13, 14, 15, 32 and 33 as well as the high grass in the Safari Zone Meadow area (only in the morning and during the day) | 34 |
Sunken | Route 24, the national park and the high grass in the Safari Zone Meadow Area (only during the day) | 25 |
If you have everything together, fly to the Indigo plateau.

If you go in, challenge the Elite Four and destroy you want to use your specially compiled anti-psychic team.
Drive into the next room and challenge coga. Make sure that your Thief user does not keep an object before starting the fight.
When Koga is about to send his MUK, switch to your selected Worry Seed user. Remember that it must be either quick or strong enough to successfully attack before it is killed by a super -effective gift attack.

After you have added Muk Insomnia, switch to your selected Thief user.
Then all you have to do is use Thief and receive your price.

Now you can either defeat the rest of the Elite Four for the sweet money and the EXP or can be defeated by Koga to quickly start the process from the front.
Tip: If you want to steal a Black sludge with Thief, but don’t want to open a Pokémon to learn Worry Seed, Biker Dale has a gulpine on Route 17 that also contains one. However, you cannot repeat this fight, so you only have one chance.
Method 3: Wild Croagunkunk
Wild Croagunk, which appears after placing 42 forest blocks in the Smari zone region of the Safari zone, also bear 5% of the cases of black mud.
But since they are in the Safari zone, they have to catch them instead of using Thief. So farming Koga is actually the better option.
