The annual VE Day celebration will take place at the beginning of May, the people of the country come together to show gratitude to those who fought in the war. World War II (WW2).

What is VE Day?
VE Day stands for Victory Day in Europe.
It marks the day in 1945, during the Second World War, when Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced that the fighting with Nazi Germany in Europe was over.
The war began on September 1, 1939 with Hitler’s invasion of Poland prompting Britain and France to declare war on Germany.
However, VE Day was not the official end of World War II because many European soldiers were still fighting in Japan.
The war ended just over three months later, on August 15, 1975.
This date, and September 2nd, is the date Japan signed the official document of surrender, both known as VJ Day or Victory Day in Japan.
When is VE Day?
VE Day takes place every year on May 8.
That means this year it will be on Sunday May 8, and it has been 77 years since VE Day.
How is VE Day celebrated?
On May 8, 1945, British people took to the streets to celebrate the Prime Minister announcing the end of the war, they sang, danced and enjoyed food and drink together.
In London, people dressed in red, white and blue, and gathered outside Buckingham Palace, and the royal family appeared on balconies to greet the crowd.
Today, people continue to celebrate by holding gatherings with friends and family. In some places, there are also large street parties where members of the community gather just as they did in 1945.
Many also decorate their homes with posters and banners designed specifically for the occasion.
Some wore outfits made to look like typical 1940s-era clothing, such as vintage dresses for women and suits for men.
The 75th anniversary of VE Day is being celebrated in 2020, and to mark its significance, the early May bank holiday, normally celebrated on May Day, has been moved to Friday 8th of May. Five.
Community events were scheduled to take place on all three days above and below the country, but most of them had to be canceled or postponed due to Covid restrictions.
VE Day celebrations in 2021 are also affected by the coronavirus pandemic, but in 2022 events are expected to return in full as restrictions no longer apply.

In the UK, two minutes of silence are celebrated at 3pm on VE Day.
