The Netflix series, The Lincoln Attorney, follows a defense attorney, Mickey Haller, who runs his Lincoln Town car.

When his former law partner is killed, Haller must take over the firm and solve a high-profile murder case.

Michael Connelly has written several novels about Haller, and has also written 21 detective novels featuring Harry Bosch, Haller’s half-brother, which have been adapted into the Amazon Bosch and Bosch: Legacy shows.

Is the Lincoln Lawyer series based on the 2011 film?

Connelly’s 2005 novel was adapted into the 2011 film The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Matthew McConaughey and Bryan Cranston.

However, in the book and movie, Haller takes on the case of a wealthy real estate broker who has been charged with assault and attempted murder.

While the series takes its name from the 2005 novel, the plot is actually borrowed from its sequel, The Brass Verdict, published in 2008.

Some of the character’s names have been changed for the series and others have been elaborated – so even though the series was inspired by The Brass Verdict, there are still points where the novel’s plot and different series.

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller

Haller is the main character of the series, an iconic lawyer who does things his way and trades a posh law office for his car.

Garcia-Rulfo Garcia-Rulfo is known for the all-star Western remake of The Magnificent Seven.

His other film roles include playing Biniamino Marquez in Agatha Christie’s film adaptations Murder on the Orient Express and Three in 6 Underground.

Neve Campbell as Maggie McPherson

McPherson is a Los Angeles district attorney, the ex-wife of Mickey and the mother of his children.

Campbell has played Sidney in every season of the horror series Scream and starred as political strategist LeAnn Harvey on Netflix’s political thriller series House of Cards.

Christopher Gorham as Trevor Elliott

Trevor Elliot, whose name has been changed from Walter in the novel, is a video game developer accused of murdering his wife and her lover – his case is taken up by Haller.

Gorham played Bobby on the sitcom 2 Broke Girls and Bob Barnard on the comedy horror series Insatiable.

Letts was a former Haller client who couldn’t afford his services and so began working for him as his chauffeur.

Letts’ previous television roles include playing Lyric Ballentine in the comedy series The Soul Man, Zoe in the fashion drama Vanity and Sydney Fletcher in the romantic drama The Quad.

Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Detective Raymond Griggs

Griggs’ character was created specifically for the series – he is an LAPD Detective who was initially the opposite of Haller, but the two eventually formed a strong working relationship.

Mwine previously played Jacques in Hurricane Katrina’s Treme, and Ronnie Davis in the upcoming series The Chi.

Other cast members include Michael Graziadei as Jeff Golantz, Lamont Thompson as Judge James P. Stanton, Angus Sampson as Cisco, LisaGay Hamilton as Judge Mary Holder, Jamie McShane as Detective Lee Lankford, Reggie Lee as Angelo Soto and Krista Warner as Hayley Haller.

When is the release date of the Lincoln Lawyer series?

The ten-episode series will be released on Netflix on May 13.

The 2011 feature film is currently not available to watch on Netflix in the UK, but you can rent it on Amazon Prime Video from £2.49.
