The timing on this seems a bit awkward for the governor, Ron DeSantis (R). He’s focused on the idea that he’s found the perfect balance between coronavirus restrictions and individual freedoms, advocating big government mandates in favor of the little man. A bit awkward, his campaign is sell goods mocking the federal government’s top infectious disease expert, Anthony S. Fauci, whose cautious approach to containing the virus has irked former president Donald Trump and by extension the establishment Trump’s support. For a Republican with an eye on 2024 – such as DeSantis – it’s a valuable audience they can play in.
