What we know so far

By Kenny Ortega A trick has been one of the most beloved children’s movies of the past 30 years. The film was originally released in 1993, and since then it has gained a huge following. As a popular and meaningful film for many, fans were delighted when the sequel was announced. For the past year, the only thing that has been announced to the public has been that the original cast of witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy) will reprise their roles but has there been any updates since?
Unfortunately, Kenny Ortega, the original director, will not be working on the sequel. Anne Fletcher, known for films like 27 dresses (2008) and Propose (2009), will take the job instead, and Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics) will be written. With another director attached A trick, it begs the question of how this will change the overall feel of the movie, but with the return of the iconic witches, one feels a little more hopeful.
Original fantasy 1993 A trick begins with teenage Thackery Binx (Sean Murray) and his sister Emily (Amanda Shepard) on Halloween night in 1693 in Salem, Massachusetts. That night, he saw his sister being taken into the forest by a notorious man witch team, the Sanderson sisters (Midler, Parker and Najimy). Following them to their house, he finds the witches giving Emily a potion to gain her youth, which also kills her in the process. When Thackery faced them, he was transformed into a black cat, now immortal.
Three hundred years later, teenager Max Dennison and his sister Dani (Thora Birch) move to Salem, Massachusetts. On Halloween night, the duo and their friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw), go on an adventure to an abandoned house. Although they didn’t believe her, Allison still told the brothers a story that revolved around the Sanderson sisters in the same house. They walk away until Max accidentally revives the Sanderson sisters after lighting a black flame candle in the house. The film tells the story of a trio, along with their talking black cat (Thackery), on a mission to stop the witches. from forever to immortal.
Now, almost three decades later, a sequel is finally in the works. With sequels and reboots being so popular these days, it’s no surprise that such a reflective film will return to the big screen. The sequel is currently in production, but there is no late release date. It is rumored to hit theaters in 2022; however, an October 2022 date might be a fantasy, but right in time for Halloween.
The plot for the sequel was announced last Halloween and will be about three young women, this time who are responsible for unwittingly bringing the Sanderson sisters back. in Salem today. Besides that, not a lot of plot details have been revealed, but some actors have hinted at a return.
When interviewed for Tonight’s reception, Vinessa Shaw, who plays Max’s friend and Allison favorite, said that she believes she and Max are still together: “I feel like she and Max are still together, but I think Allison is from Salem, and he always wanted to be in California. I think they made some compromises, and maybe she’s in Salem when the witches come back, you know, visit her mom or something.” Does this mean they can return to the sequel? Fans can only hope. Other new additions include Tony Hale, Hannah Waddingham, Juju Brenner, Nina Kitchen, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Lilia Buckingham, Sam Richardson, Doug Jones, Froy Gutierrez and Taylor Henderson.
Last week, the first official image of the upcoming movie was posted, making the audience extremely excited. The photo was shared on Twitter by both Disney+ and Bette Midler with the caption “Sistaaaaahs! ‘It’s time! #HocusPocus2 is currently in production, coming to @DisneyPlus in Fall 2022.” The photo showcases the original actresses Midler, Parker and Najimy showcasing their roles as beloved witches. The painting looks like a spitting image from the original movie, looking like no time has passed, despite being almost 30 years old.
Nostalgia has been in the forefront in recent years, with a revival of children’s movies and shows announced (Spy Kids, Rugrats, Home alone, Beavis and Butt-Head, to name a few), so A trick hopefully there will be a successful release. The kids grow up Watch movies every Halloween now have kids of their own, who they can share the same fuzzy feeling with.
With visuals, plot details, and cast announced, the movie finally feels like it’s happening. Startups and sequels are often loved or absolutely hated. With the original cast back, it really feels like magic in the air and Hocus Pocus 2 is destined to be successful.
