What made the first season successful?
So many movies and shows have tried to reboot successfully over the years. The 12th film in a 4-decade long series, Halloween Kills, has just been released. NS Screaming The TV series was not very successful, despite having three seasons but only 61% on Rotten Tomatoes. Manufacturing companies continue to strive to bring back the original magic, which is virtually impossible to reproduce.
All this being said, when the show SYFY Chucky was announced, fans were a bit nervous for good reasons. NS Child’s play The remake came out just a few years ago and is the last official film in the franchise Chucky sect (2017) didn’t even make it to theaters. Does the world want more Chuckys? The answer is an amazing yes, for several reasons. First, the original cast and crew are all attached to the show, and there’s no more CGI, as Chucky has gone back to his roots with the cartoon. This, among other reasons, is why Chucky had a successful first season and has been renewed in a second.
With Chucky being a essential hit franchise among many people, the program could go wrong very quickly. With iconic characters that only OG fans will recognize, like Andy (Alex Vincent), Kyle (Christine Elise) and Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) returning, it can be a slippery slope. On the one hand, too many original actors might make it only hard for hardcore fans to watch the show, but it’s not. Both original creator Don Mancini and director Tom Holland did a great job taking on both the original character and adding new ones. The casting session was quite remarkable and the new kids added a lot.

When several people begin to die brutally, including Jake’s alcoholic and abusive father (Devon Sawa), the town panics. Moving in with his wealthy aunt Bree (Lexa Doig), Uncle Logan (also played by Sawa) and cousin Junior (Teo Briones), things only start to get worse.
Chucky forms a unique relationship with Jake, as he is his only friend. Constantly bullied by Junior and his famous and extremely rude girlfriend Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), Chucky gradually pours hatred into Jake’s heart, even trying to kill Lexy at one point. He gradually befriends Devon (Bjorgvin Arnarson), the son of Detective Kim Evans (Rachelle Casseus), who is always wary of Jake, as the people around him appear to be dead. After many people close to him begin to die, he, along with Lexy and Devon, the only other people who know of Chucky, form an alliance to find a way to kill him.
This show’s spin, character development, and unique blend of comedy, horror, and teen genres make up Chucky really unique from the previous movies. Mancini did an incredible job of keeping the fun, creepy atmosphere alive with Chucky’s dirty mouth and bloody murders, but also added an element of teen drama, approaching volume. larger audience. The show is like a horror version sometimes of the teen drama Riverdale. This way, both OG fans and newcomers get what they like.
Something that has made the season a success is that even those who have not seen any of the series before can enjoy and understand the show. There are moments made just for the original fans, but most of the show is easily accessible to different types of viewers. There are bloody murder scenes, the return of the original characters, but the real stars of the show are the newcomers. Jake, Lexy, Devon and Junior are new generation of the Chucky, and they do a great job at it. It can be complicated to find the perfect child actors to bring out the sense of nostalgia and fun so many people get from Child’s play franchise, and Chucky actually have a similar sentiment.
The show doesn’t feel overly contrived with the doll itself, even going back to its animated roots. A show about a murder doll might look cheesy, but the doll being a cyborg instead of just CGI gave Chucky life. When interviewed for Loop, Mancini stated why he refused to use CGI in the show: “We didn’t use any CGI in the series. We use visual effects to remove the puppets and sticks and cables and stuff, but the puppets themselves are 100% animated. I think it was in Chucky’s Curse, where I did two shots with CG Chucky, and I really didn’t want to. It wasn’t my plan, it was just budget, time and desperation. The fans saw them immediately and they asked: ‘What the hell is that?’ and it was like, ‘Okay, I’m sorry! I won’t do that anymore! ‘”
With the first season of Chucky With only eight episodes but having killed off more than half of its cast, it will be intriguing to see what Mancini will do with the new season. Will there be more return of the original characters? Will there be new additions for tight high school students? Fans will have to wait and see in 2022.
