Before the recent trend, many people thought that Madonna’s 1985 hit the same name is making a comeback, but it simply isn’t. The low-pitched tune is the brainchild of reality TV star and rapper Saucy Santana, who started out in the entertainment industry as a makeup artist for rap duo City Girls.

Stemming from a similar purpose to Madonna’s pop classic, “Material Girl” encourages vanity in all of us. The purpose of the song is to flaunt frivolous luxuries for all the ‘material’ pleasures life has to offer. As Madonna put it, “the guy with the cold cash is always the Mister Right.”

“Material Girl” started a new TikTok trend where users show off and exaggerate their wealth and material possessions while Saucy Santana’s song plays in the background.
