What Happened To That Bread ‘Under the Deck’?

If you’ve never heard of banh mi, your first introduction to the dish may have come on last night’s episode. Below the table when we found out, “it smells like a rotten vagina.” Good to know! Can always count on Chef Rachel Hargrove to tell it as it is.
When Chief Heather handed over the interior duties, Jess was tasked with handling the charterers and Fraser went to the laundry room to give it a shape. But before he could turn it into a tidy shelter, he received something rather nasty.
“What is that? It really stinks,” he told Heather as he found a plastic bag on top of the washing machine.
“Throw that away. Oh my, that stinks,” she instructed him, running out of the room.
“Oh yeah, it’s bread,” confirmed chef Rachel. “Where were they?”
Fraser pointed to their location and said to her, “Up here and the smell is burning. Looks like someone has worked here for the past two charters and hasn’t noticed,” he said, referring to Jess and her previous work on yachts.
This is where Rachel lets go, “It smells like a rotten vagina,” and Fraser agrees, saying, “That’s right, not that I know of.”
“This is why you’re gay!” Rachel joked with him.
So what the hell is even bread? Well, a quick Google search revealed that it is a “The mulberry tree (Moraceae) and its large fruits are a staple food of the South Pacific and other tropical regions. Breadfruit contains a significant amount of starch and is rarely eaten raw. It can be roasted, baked, boiled, fried, or dried and ground into a powder.” And if you’re wondering what it tastes like, Parade said, “Although the flavor correlation of bread berries is strongest with freshly baked bread when cooked, starchy bread berries can also taste similar to potatoes, even though different types of bread can also taste like potatoes. Cooked noodles have a sweeter taste because starch is converted into sugar.
Below the table airs at 9 p.m. ET/PT Monday on Bravo.
