‘Western Tales’: Mike Faist Introduces Tragic Riff to Modern Audiences

“It’s too bad,” Mike Faist, who is earning zest for his Riff reinvention in Steven Spielberg‘S West story, talk about seeing the movie for the first time. Vanity Fair: Did you say something when talking to the Time, that’s what you’ve seen do West, you cannot see. I can’t quite figure out what that means. Obviously, it’s a huge movie to make. But what in particular keeps you from seeing?

Mike Faist: Look for Steven and [screenwriter] Tony [Kushner] and all of us making this movie, it’s really beyond a privilege. I like the word Tony uses. We are the custodians of this document. I think, for us, we really feel like we’re part of something so much bigger than ourselves. When you’re part of something like that, it’s just a great feeling. You can’t help but remember why you got into all this in the first place, why you wanted to be an actor or do any of these things. It’s a real reminder, personally, at least I want to feel and do with an unquoted “career” statement. Do you understand what I mean? Whatever that To be. We play pretend for a living. That is ridiculous. I really feel like the lucky ones. Not everyone has the ability to pursue a job that is always fun. We are not always like that. But we’re still doing something we love.

So with real responsibility, you have to do it right. It must come from love for what you do. If it comes from somewhere else — I always say you should do things out of love, not out of love. There is a big difference. There is a huge difference. That’s what I mean, I think, when I say it. I was so shaken when I stood working with Steven and Tony, the entire cast, the Jets, everyone doing this, and had that very intuitive reaction, and realized that you have to set a precedent. new to yourself, Mike.
