Weird: The Al Yankovic Story: trailer, release date and cast

The film, co-written, produced and directed by Yankovic, is expected to tell the rich story of how he became the biggest parody singer in the world.

Fans can look forward to seeing his trademark Hawaiian shirt, accordion, and curly hair, along with his most popular songs including Like a Surgeon and Eat It.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Weird: The Al Yankovic story and when it will be released.

Al Yankovic is an American comedian, singer, songwriter and actor, best known as a parody artist.

Armed with his trusty accordion, his comedic twists on chart-topping classics sometimes become more popular than the original versions themselves.

Yankovic began his career in the late 1970s, releasing his first self-titled album in 1983.

It features tracks including, Ricky, a parody of Toni Basil’s hit “Mickey,” and an MTV top 100 video break.

Yankovic would go on to do many other popular parodies including Eat It, Smells like Nirvana, and Amish Paradise.

The five-time Grammy Award winner lives in California and co-wrote the film’s screenplay.

He is currently on a tour across North America, where he will be performing 100 concerts.

One thing we can count on is that the movie is bound to be weird.

Channel Roku shared the first trailer for the biopic of the singer’s famous parody, Like a Surgeon.

According to Rolling Stone in a statement in January 2022, Yankovic said:

“I have no doubt that this is a role that future generations will remember him for.”

Yankovic’s 1986 parody of Madonna Like a Surgeon was featured on the intro soundtrack.

Speaking to NME, Roku’s Head of Original Script Programming Colin Davis said:

“We’re excited to unravel the incredibly true, unflattering story of ‘Weird Al’.”

Radcliffe will star as Al, famously wearing a Hawaiian shirt, curly hair, and accordion.

Speaking to People about playing for Yankovic, he said: “Playing for Hawaii is a huge responsibility that I don’t take lightly.”

“Finally, I am honored to share with the world the 100% undisclosed true story of Weird Al’s scandalous and depraved life.”

The official release date of the film is yet to be confirmed, but the series is expected to be released on the Roku channel sometime in 2022.

The trailer released on May 3 featured Radcliffe in full character and reaching for an accordion.

Yankovic took to Twitter to announce it with the tweet, “Let’s take it easy.”

The Weird Al Yankovic film will be available to watch on the Roku Channel in the UK.

A release date has yet to be announced, but is expected to be around 2022.
