Although Islam has set an impressive record, Dagestani has not played against anyone from the top five rankings. Justin on a recent episode of the UFC Unfiltered podcast pointed this out. Beneil Dariush, another first-place boxer in lightweight is also a worthy contender for the title.

“Finish your duty, fight these guys, and Beneil Dariush is right here. And I like the guy, he’s my friend so you know I’m going to jump over this man and expect to get a title when guy number 3 is Beneil Dariush. Handle that. That has to be handled,” Gaethje said in the latest episode.

In defense of Islam, the boxer claims that top boxers have been avoiding him since he enjoyed a commendable winning streak. Islam was originally planned against the former champion Rafael Dos Anjos but due to injury, Dan Hooker came on as a substitute to play Makhachev at UFC 267.
