Watch Spike Lee Accidentally Reveal Cannes’ Palme d’Or Winner

In what could be the biggest awards ceremony slip up since gaffe has the best picture of the 2017 Oscars, Spike Lee accidentally and soon revealed the winner of the Cannes Palme d’Or at the start of the festival’s closing ceremony on Saturday, The Hollywood Reporter write.
Lee – as president of this year’s Cannes jury – was asked by the host: “Can you tell me what the first prize is?” Usually, the announcement of the winners leads to the Palme d’Or, the final prize of the evening.
However, Lee nonchalantly announced as the first winner of the awards ceremony, “The film won the Palme d’Or, Titane, it was accidentally revealed early on that the film directed by Julia Ducournau had won the festival’s highest award.

Juror Melanie Laurent reached out to Lee and shouted ‘No!’ after the director accidentally announced the wrong award, while the other jurors laughed or buried their heads in their hands. Amidst the confusion, Lee shouted “English!” to ease the awkwardness of the moment, but the damage was done: Titane will officially win the Palme d’Or.
Other winners at this year’s Cannes include Leos Carax for Best Director for a Sparks Musical. Annette, Asghar Farhadi’s A hero and Juho Kuosmanen’s Drawer No. 6 received the Grand Prix and Caleb Landry Jones won Best Actor for Nitram.
