Holcomb, like the safe guys, has made clear strides with a clearer role. Washington played Davis more in the middle earlier in the year, but it recently used Davis outside and gave Holcomb a “blue dot” on his helmet, which suggests he calls plays. Holcomb said he trusts his instincts more, and in the second quarter, when the Raiders ran a swing to re-run Josh Jacobs, Holcomb ruined the play and helped Bobby McCain handle it safely.
