Warzone developers plan walkout to protest recent incidents
Workers on Raven Software’s QA team are taking to the streets protesting the layoffs of more than 30% of their workforce, requiring all members to work full-time.
Activision Blizzard continues to face scrutiny for its cruelty to workers and poor business decisions. One of its latest blunders includes both of these, like several employees have been fired from Raven Software.
For those who don’t know, Raven software is a co-development company Call of Duty: Warzone along with Infinity Ward, a game that has become one of Activision’s biggest moneymakers in the mainstream gaming arena. The fired employees are part of the QA team, the team entrusted to ensure Battlefield keep running smoothly, which most people agree is pretty important. This includes their fellow employees who are showing solidarity through action.
Members of the Raven Software QA team have announced that they are going out to protest against their team members receiving the ax and that the walk, as of this writing, has been carried out. The requirements were simple and direct: all contractors, both those still on the team and those who had been laid off, were allowed to take up the positions full-time. Better ABK tweeted a follow-up, saying it stood with employees as they protested their abuse. It’s also not relegated just for this team, because senior test analyst at Activision Blizzard left recently toxic working environment.
However, unlike the analyst said, it is imperative for many contractors that they keep their jobs with Raven Software. However, many of them have relocated for this job, and without the financial support promised to them, building their new home could be a big deal. This layoff comes after months of endless promises of pay increases but never came. In some cases, it also happens after being denied disability coverage. Accusations, dismissal and abuse have now been revealed as Activision Blizzard takes the helm in a company where all matters concerning its chief executive.
It is hoped that with the support of A Better ABK, Raven Software employees can meet their requirements, with those laid off being reinstated and everyone in a permanent position. Although with Activision Blizzard’s accountability committee is made up of its own board members, that result is somewhat suspicious.
Activision Blizzard’s future is now in doubt, with numerous accusations against the company and intense scrutiny by both the public and the industry against its leaders. Multiple state treasurers are reviewing Activision Blizzard’s finances following its lawsuits, and may soon have serious ramifications. Players and staff want to see things change for the better, but it will still take a lot of action to get there.
